There are 2 ways to do this. Some guns, like my excellent 640 pro series are issued sans lock. The flag plate is noted with the nub.

On Centennial Guns It Only Leaves A Super Tiny Pivot Pin Hole Open But There Will Be A Gap On Guns With External Hammers.

This procedure will not leave an unsightly hole in the side of. I have seen pictures of smith revolvers with the locks removed and plugs installed but can't find any out there in kit form. There was a guy on one of the s&w forums that made a plug to fill the hole, but i think he has passed.

However revolvers are hardly a sealed unit with lots of places. If you decide to deactivate the internal safety, i suggest that you review various directions on the 'net. I choose to remove the flag.
